Next year's iPad Pro could be ridiculously expensive.

The iPad Pro 2024 appears to be a significant upgrade from the current model, but sadly, according to the leak source Revegnus, a significant price increase may be added.

According to sources at Revegnus, some sort of price increase seems inevitable. However, one of their multiple supposed insiders claims a particularly large price increase, starting at $1500 for the 11-inch model and $1800 for the new 13-inch model. Incidentally, the current 11-inch model starts at $800, while the larger 12.9-inch model costs $1,100.

At this price, the iPad Pro would cost more than the MacBook Air, the $1,200 13-inch model, or the $1,300 15-inch version. In fact, the 13-inch iPad Pro would cost about the same as the basic 14-inch MacBook Pro at $2,000, which seems ridiculous given that Apple is currently targeting less-intensive use cases for the iPad.

We had heard rumors of this significant price increase earlier this year, but given this new claim and other rumored features such as the OLED display, updated aluminum Magic Keyboard accessory, and rumored new OS, the iPhone 15 Pro, rather than a top-of-the-line consumer-grade device like the Pro, a very different type of iPad Pro emerges, one that is squarely targeted at professional users, like Apple's Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

This repurposing of the iPad Pro is not necessarily a terrible idea, but Apple will need to continue to improve the Pro app ecosystem on the iPad. iPad Pro is already a great device for digital artists, but in music production and video production, the M2 interface is insufficient to take advantage of the chipset.

It is highly likely that Apple will announce the next iPad Pro next year, probably in the spring. Otherwise, the two obvious choices for an announcement in 2024 would be WWDC in the summer or Apple's regular fall event in September.
