Google has made Chrome's address bar much faster - 5 things to try right now

While you can easily navigate to Google Search from Chrome, most people do most of their web searching in the browser address bar. That's why Google is rolling out five new updates to speed up search.

The first update will undoubtedly make searching frequently visited sites even faster as the search giant brings smarter autocompletion to Chrome. Previously, the browser autocompleted URLs only if the first part of the URL in the address bar was typed correctly. With this change, however, the address bar will now autocomplete URLs based on any world you have used to search for websites in the past. For example, if you type "flights," Chrome will show you Google Flights without having to type the entire URL.

Even with the best mechanical keyboards, it is easy to make typos, especially when entering search terms in Chrome's address bar. In the future, however, Chrome will detect such typos and immediately display suggestions based on websites you have visited in the past. Fortunately, this feature is now available in Chrome on desktop, Android, and iOS.

Navigating to bookmarks can take valuable time, but Chrome now allows you to search within your bookmarks folder from the address bar on both desktop and mobile. Simply include the folder name in your search and suggestions from that collection will appear.

Sometimes it can be difficult to remember the name of a website recommended by a friend. To help in such cases, Chrome now suggests popular sites even if you have never visited them or typed the URL incorrectly. For example, if you type "Google Earth" in Chrome's address bar, the Google Earth website will appear in the drop-down box below it.

Finally, Google has improved the visual layout of the address bar in the desktop version of Chrome, making it easier to read. At the same time, responsiveness has been improved, giving you even faster search results the moment you start typing.

According to Statcounter, Chrome continues to be the most popular browser overall with 63.45% of the global browser market share, and with Google continually tweaking its browser, it is easy to see why Safari and Edge are in second and third place respectively. It is easy to see why Safari and Edge are in second and third place, respectively, as Google continues to tweak its browser.

In August, for example, Google made five major upgrades to Chrome, including a new download tray and improved search. The search giant is now updating Chrome weekly for better security, but we still see new features and improvements coming to its browser every few months when a brand new version is rolled out.

Google has already introduced generative AI for search, and as Google Bird continues to improve, it would not be surprising to see AI features added to Chrome in the future.

For now, however, searching in the address bar is becoming so fast and easy that it makes sense to skip going to Google's website altogether. Hopefully in the future we will be able to do even more from the browser's address bar.
