Apple's first folding iPad to appear in late 2024?

The long-rumored foldable iPad could be announced by the end of 2024.

This is according to a paid report by Taiwan-based Digitimes (via MacRumors) on Apple's alleged foldable tablet. According to the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant has been working on a foldable iPad for four years, during which time it has undergone continuous design changes. The design has not yet been finalized, but the company reportedly plans to begin mass production of the foldable tablet by the end of 2024.

According to Digitimes sources, Apple is in talks with Samsung Display (SDC) and LG Display (LGD) about panel supply regarding the foldable product. Apparently, one of Apple's concerns is panel folds. However, its partners have reportedly been able to reduce the prominent folds through mechanical design

.

So why might a foldable iPad appear before a foldable iPhone? according to Digitimes, the iPad is a smaller percentage of Apple's sales, making it easier to address potential problems and less impactful than the popular iPhone Not to mention that it is less likely.

Rumors surrounding Apple's first foldable tablet have been circulating for over a year; in October 2022, we reported that Apple's first foldable iPad would appear in 2024. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also made this claim, but Bloomberg reporter and Apple informant Mark Gurman said the foldable iPad would not be available in 2024. At the time, Gurman said the company was working on upgrades like an OLED display for the iPad Pro. It should be noted that Garman has not said much (if anything) about a foldable iPad this year.

As always, this latest report should be viewed with skepticism, since Apple has not officially announced that it is working on a foldable iPad. However, given the rise of foldable devices, especially phones like the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, it is reasonable.

Again, a foldable iPad is still a rumor at this point, but I would not be surprised if Apple announces such a slate type.
