32" iMac with mini LED display, coming in 2025?

Rumors are growing that Apple is preparing a refresh of its 24-inch iMac with M2 and M2 Pro chips. But those hoping for a quick reveal of the new machines may have to wait longer than we originally thought: according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the 24-inch iMac refresh will take place next year in 2024. A refresh in 2023, along with the high-profile iPad mini 7 and iPad Air 6, is about as likely as it gets.

Kuo, a supply chain analyst who is adept at predicting Apple's moves, also believes that Apple will release a higher-end 32-inch iMac with a mini LED display in 2025. Given Apple's current $5,000 price tag for the 32-inch Pro Display XDR with mini LED, this new iMac will surely be for those with deep pockets, far beyond the realm of the Apple Vision Pro.

Kuo's prediction follows his correct analysis that Apple will refresh the Mac Pro and Mac mini this year. Earlier this week, it was reported that the more powerful configurations of the current M1 iMac are facing shipping delays, forcing customers who ordered the SSD and RAM expansion to wait until November for the product reveal. Some speculate that this may be a sign that Apple is preparing a hardware refresh.

Apart from this, there are other rumors suggesting that Apple will skip the M2 chip for the iMac and simply use the new M3 instead; the M2 chip was released with the MacBook Air M2 last summer, so it makes sense that the M3 chip will be in the new iMac 12 months later. makes sense.

"I haven't seen anything to indicate that there will be new iMacs until the M3 chip generation. If you want to stick with an iMac, you'll just have to sit tight."

The latest information on the possibility of an M3 iMac is all covered on our hub page here, but for now, Kuo seems to have the inside track on the 24-inch revisions with M2 and M2 Pro, and we should not get our hopes up until the New Year I guess.

As my colleague Tony Polanco said, none of this information is official yet, so it is best taken with a pinch of salt. It makes much more sense to wait for Apple to release the M2 iMac, but the M2 and M2 Pro chips are still powerful enough. So we will have to wait and see what Cupertino announces in the coming months.
