YouTube Announces Massive Upgrade - 17 New Features You Need to Know

YouTube is often left out of streaming service discussions (partly because it is free), but it is a very popular streaming platform with millions of hours of content. And now YouTube is about to bring a staggering number of upgrades to this platform.

In a blog post today, YouTube announced that "three dozen new features and design updates" are coming to the platform. The changes will roll out globally over the next few weeks and may soon be joined by updates to the YouTube Kids app, which YouTube teased at the end of its announcement.

After watching YouTube's announcement video and reading the blog post, I didn't get around to the "three dozen" upgrades, but I still counted 17 new features and updates coming to YouTube with this announcement. That's a massive upgrade by any measure.

Let's take a look at the top three upgrades YouTube announced today.

Taking a page from Google TV, YouTube has merged several tabs into one new You tab. This new tab takes everything from your old Library and Account tabs and puts it in one place. This means that all your watched videos, playlists, download purchases, and settings are now in one place, greatly upgrading the user experience. Available today on web browsers, cell phones, and tablets.

If you're like me, you've undoubtedly had a song stuck in your head at least once or twice; it's especially frustrating when you're slurring a couple of bars or only remembering the chorus (perhaps getting a word or two wrong). Today, you can search for a YouTube song by playing it, singing it, or humming it on your Android device. AI will then match your voice with the song you are looking for. This feature will be rolled out to Android devices only in the coming weeks.

YouTube plans to eventually roll out something similar to the web and mobile, but the best TVs are getting a YouTube upgrade just for them.YouTube has added a new vertical menu to its smart TV interface, video descriptions, comments, subscribe button, and quick access to video chapters. This new feature provides another upgrade to the user experience.

Below is a full list of new features that will be added to YouTube in the coming weeks:
