Google Maps Finally Supports Android - A Feature iPhone Users Have Had for Years

Google Maps will finally offer real-time weather information on its Android version, which has already been available on the iPhone version for four years.

You can see what it looks like thanks to a screenshot taken by Telegram user bhusankumar2k2 and shared in the messaging app's unofficial Google News group. By default, the weather appears as a humble chip in the lower left corner of the Google Maps search bar, showing the weather and temperature for the area currently viewed in the app. Tapping it will display a more detailed forecast, including the expected weather for the next few hours and an assessment of air quality.

As hinted at by the Google News administrator, the Google Maps iOS app gained the ability to display the weather for the location currently being viewed in September 2019. But now that it is finally available to Android users, iPhone users have one less thing to gloat about.

While Google is the maker of Android and would certainly prefer that people use the Google Pixel over the iPhone, there is no disputing the fact that the iPhone is the most famous smartphone brand on the planet. Therefore, it still makes sense for Google to prioritize the iOS versions of Maps, Chrome, and other apps to avoid users adopting rival services. That said, why it took four years to get this feature on Android is a mystery.

Google Maps has gradually added other new features over the past few months. If you didn't know that you can use emojis to save locations to a list or find nearby electric car charging stations, these articles will show you how.

And more features are on the way. Google Maps features rumored to be coming in the near future include the possibility of Live Activity directions support in the iPhone 15's Dynamic Island and the implementation of Google Assistant.
