The Wheel of Time, Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

The Wheel of Time keeps turning, and it will eventually turn for Season 3 of The Wheel of Time. Fans can expect more magic and mayhem in the battle between good and evil as Amazon has ordered the third installment of the fantasy epic series based on Robert Jordan's book to Prime Video in summer 2022.

"The Wheel of Time" follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), an Ethedi sorceress, and the young villagers she finds - one of whom, Rand (Josha Stradovsky), is the reincarnation of a prophesied dragon.

Rand and her companions begin a journey far from their rural home. The Dark One and his band of Forsaken are only growing in power, and greater challenges and dangers lie ahead. Rand must hone his still raw strength in order to save the world.

Here's everything we know about The Wheel of Time Season 3.

Season 3 of The Wheel of Time is definitely in the works; at Comic-Con 2022, Amazon revealed that the series has been renewed for a third season.

The scripts for Season 3 of The Wheel of Time were all completed before the (now defunct) National Writers Guild strike. Filming began in April 2023, and in June, stars Josha Stradovsky and Daniel Henney told TechRadar that they were "pretty much done." However, production was suspended when the WGA and later the Screen Actors Guild went on strike.

If SAG and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) could reach an agreement, the cast could resume filming. Unfortunately, talks have stalled and may take some time.

Under normal circumstances, Season 3 of "The Wheel of Time" might have followed the pattern set by the first two seasons, i.e., a year apart, with a fall premiere. With the postponement, however, fans may not get new episodes until spring 2025.

The Wheel of Time's main cast will return for Season 3:

It is also likely that the following supporting characters will return:

In The Wheel of Time's Season 2 finale, the place where the dragon was prophesied to announce his return all the major characters will once again gather in the city of Falme, which was predicted to be the place where the dragon would announce his return. There, Egwene is captured by Sean, and Nynaeve and Elaine try to find a way to free her. Rand shows up to rescue Egwene, but also fights Ishamael.

Meanwhile, Perrin arrives with Aiel's people, but encounters White Croaks (who has a grudge against him). He and Royall try to give Valea's horn to Rand, but Matt eventually blows the horn and summons the ghostly horned heroes.

While Rand confronts Ishamael, a massive battle ensues involving Seanchan, Whitecloak, and the Heroes. Lando confronts Ishamael and nearly loses, but is saved by his fellow Emond fieldmen and is able to kill Forsaken. Moylan destroys the Shanshan fleet, creates a dragon made of fire, and proclaims Lando the Dragon Reborn.

Season 3 of The Wheel of Time takes place after these events, expanding the story to new locations and introducing more new characters. One of the new key characters is the Forsaken Mohedien, who appeared at the end of the Season 2 finale. As she revealed to Lanfear, Ishamael released all the remaining Forsaken.

"S3 is even more sophisticated, richer and deeper than S2," showrunner Rafe Judkins announced on X (formerly Twitter).

Judkins previously confirmed that Season 3 of The Wheel of Time would incorporate elements from Jordan's fourth film, Shadow Rising.

"I am very excited that a third season of The Wheel of Time is in the works," he said when the Amazon renewal was announced. Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so to be able to bring it to television and introduce a new audience to the story that got me hooked on it in the first place is an honor and something I've been working toward since I first started planning this show many years ago. It's what I've been striving for since I first started planning this show many years ago.

Now, I'm going to get into spoilers for "Shadow Rising," so if you haven't read the book, please stop reading now.

One of the main storylines of "Shadow Rising" is Rand's journey to the home of the Aiel, known as the Wastes. In the Season 2 finale, Rand's fervent proclamation that he has been reborn as a dragon was importantly delivered by the Aiel warrior Aviendha and her companions. It seems that the Aiel had a prophecy of a messiah called Ka'akhan.

If the program is true to the book, the emond filers will be divided again. Rand, Moiraine, Egeveine, and Matt will head for the wilderness of Aiel, Perrin will return to the village, and Nynaeve and Hélène will hunt the Black Ajah.

And let's not forget the appearance of Mohedien, who is set to be a dangerous but fascinating villain in Season 3 of The Wheel of Time. In this film, Mohedien becomes a special enemy of Nynaeve and Elaine, who are searching for Ryandrin and the other members of the Black Ajah.
