Joanna Gaines' Porch Decor is "Minimalist, Modern Halloween Decor" - Ask the Expert

When we think of traditional Halloween front porch decorating, we don't often associate the words "chic" or "sophisticated" with it. But that's clearly not the case with interior design guru Joanna Gaines.

Well known for her trademark rustic-chic farmhouse style and modern neutral colors, it is not surprising that her Halloween front porch decor exudes the same Instagram style.

Essentially, the porch is the first thing guests see before entering your home. It showcases your property, improves your curb appeal, and instantly makes a great first impression. For Joanna Gaines, that means creating a balanced Halloween porch look without being tacky or gaudy.

Here, we asked interior designers and experts to share their thoughts on Joanna's front porch style.

Pumpkins are synonymous with Halloween, but if you want to break away from tradition, why not opt for white pumpkins instead? The "Fixer Upper" star and Magnolia designer keeps it simple and stylish by adding a few gray pumpkins collected by her son Cree.

"In my opinion, it exudes an air of sophistication and maturity. No more orange jack-o'-lanterns or plastic pumpkins.

In her porch postings, we also see subtle decorative features such as wall lanterns and various porch planters filled with beautiful seasonal foliage. These all lend themselves to adding impact, color, and rustic charm.

"The home decorating style in this Instagram post by Joanna Gaines is a minimalist and modern take on Halloween decor. The "less is more" philosophy is used, with an emphasis on simplicity, clean lines, and clutter-free," agrees Zara O'hare of Land of Rugs. It is a great example of how a minimalist approach can capture the essence of the holidays while still maintaining an elegant, contemporary aesthetic."

Abbas Yousefi, founder and CEO of Porcelain Superstore, also agrees that when it comes to Halloween decorating, color and neutral color choices set the tone for the spooky celebration. He says, "Vibrant colors like orange and black create a festive, lively atmosphere and evoke the classic Halloween spirit. On the other hand, if you don't want to give up the aesthetic neutral colors that have been in vogue for some time, opt for shades of gray and brown."

If you want to get creative, two coats of acrylic paint (not oil-based) can be used to paint the pumpkins white or gray. Acrylic spray paint dries quickly and has a matte finish for a stylish look. In addition, they come in a variety of pastel and metallic colors. You can also opt for faux pumpkins, which can be purchased at craft stores or online. For example, these DomeStar Artificial Pumpkins, 12PCS White ($8, Amazon) can be used all year round.

In addition, you can create a cozy, warm atmosphere by adding the best porch plants and the best solar lights.

"Additionally, planters and lanterns can be incorporated to add even more charm and coziness to the space. Lanterns can create a warm, cozy atmosphere, especially as the days get shorter, and planters can be filled with seasonal flowers and foliage, such as chrysanthemums, ornamental kale, and pumpkins.

Perhaps the most interesting part of her Instagram post is the unexpected addition left by her son. Someone decorated our front porch for Halloween. The post shows two ghouls drawn in pencil on a white wall with the caption, "I'm so excited.

Either way, Joanna Gaines has proven this season that she can be festive and fun, yet stylish, chic and contemporary.
