iPhone 16 Pro, camera and connectivity upgrades suggested - what we know

The iPhone 15 series is still in its infancy, but rumors of its successor, the iPhone 16, are already beginning to be heard. New information has been floating around the web, and this information has revealed some of the upgrades that may be included in the iPhone 16 Pro.

An investor note by Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities (via 9to5Mac), based on information gathered from sources within Apple's supply chain, reveals analysts' predictions for the iPhone 16 lineup The first prediction is that Apple will release a new iPhone 16. The first prediction is that Apple will expand the size of the new iPhones to 6.3" and 6.9

This is 0.2 inches larger than the current model, a rumor we have already heard from other sources. It also means that there could be enough space for Apple to add a new tetra prism lens to the iPhone 16 Pro, giving it the same 5x optical zoom as the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The Pro model may also feature a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, finally upgrading the 12MP lens that the iPhone has used for the past three generations. Sadly, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may continue to use the 12MP lens for another year.

But according to Pu, there is more to this than camera improvements. Naturally, he expects the iPhone 16 Pro to run on the full A18 Pro chipset with 8GB of RAM. As for the two non-Pro iPhone 16s, Pu claims they will feature the less powerful A17 chip - i.e. not the same A17 Pro we currently have in the iPhone 15 Pro. This chip is likely to have 6GB to 8GB of RAM.

It is also claimed that the Pro model may have better connectivity as it will feature Wi-Fi 7 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem. Another source said that Apple's home-made 5G modem will not appear next year. However, the new "5G Advanced" standard means that the X75 could reach download speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps. Sadly, these upgrades are not currently expected to be available on any model other than the Pro.

We still have to wait nearly a year before Apple announces the iPhone 16 series. But you can catch up on all the latest news and rumors in our iPhone 16 hub.
