OnePlus Open officially announced on October 19 - leaked price exceeds Galaxy Z Fold 5

The official announcement date for the OnePlus Open has been announced.

The announcement will take place on October 19 at an event in Mumbai, India, with the launch beginning at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time and 3:00 p.m. UK time.OnePlus teasers of the Open, including the classic OnePlus alert slider and flexible inner display Some of the design features have also been revealed.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, OnePlus president and COO Kinder Liu claims that the OnePlus Open will feature "unprecedented image performance, efficient software, and premium quality without screen creases." We especially like the sound of minimal creasing on the inner display and are curious to see what the phone's camera will look like. Fortunately, according to a comprehensive leak by WinFuture's Roland Quandt, we already have some idea of what it will look like, so we don't have to guess.

As for photography, Quandt's leak indicates that users will be treated to the OnePlus' usual Hasselblad-tuned camera, consisting of a 48MP main, 48MP ultrawide, and 64MP 3x telephoto shooter on the back, with a resolution of It appears to have inner and outer selfie cameras, although the resolution is unknown.

More interestingly, Quandt claims that the sticker price for OnePlus' first foldable phone will be around $1,700. This is cheaper than the $1,800 that Samsung charges for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the $1,800 that Google charges for the Pixel Fold.

The WinFuture leak continues to claim that Open will have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 6.31-inch outer display, as well as a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and up to 16GB RAM.

The OnePlus Open is also said to feature a unique design that includes a large round camera block, typical OnePlus design flourishes, and what appears to be either a green glass back or black leather back.

The rumored hardware certainly looks good, at least on paper it is equal to or better than the Pixel Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, software is a big area where OnePlus needs to score. Not only because it will make the most of what is said to be a higher-resolution camera and a powerful chipset, but also because it will allow users to take full advantage of the large inner display and not the much cheaper OnePlus 11 or similar standard flagship phones. It is also because it justifies the user's decision to purchase it.

Fortunately for OnePlus, it can rely on the work of its partner company Oppo; the Oppo Find N2 is a great foldable, but it is not sold outside of China. Hopefully, with this second-hand experience, OnePlus can avoid the troubles that phone makers often experience with their first foldable phones and provide everything Open needs to become one of the best foldable phones being sold.
