Sony Launches Another Gaming Earphone - This Time with 12-Hour Battery Life

If you're looking for gaming earbuds specifically for the PS5, Sony has you covered. Again: in addition to the PS5 Explore earphones that will be available with the PlayStation Portal, Sony has announced new $200 InZone Buds.

The concept behind these earbuds is to provide the lowest latency audio possible and a long battery life of up to 12 hours of continuous use. The buds also offer 360-degree spatial audio and AI-based audio reduction to help tune out distracting sounds around you.

InZone Buds are compatible with PS5, PC, and mobile devices, with most connections made through a USB-C dongle. However, they are also Bluetooth LE Audio compatible and can be used by anyone with a cell phone that supports this standard.

According to The Verge, the InZone Buds are not designed for audio other than music and gaming, but they are not really tuned that way. They do, however, have active noise cancellation. Ambient Sound mode, the same Dynamic Drive X architecture as Sony's WF-1000X earphones, and lots of silicone eartips for a perfect fit.

It's a little odd that Sony would release these buds so close to the launch of the Pulse Explore earphones. These earbuds promise ultra-low latency, lossless audio, and wireless compatibility PlayStation Portal thanks to the new PlayStation Link protocol; PS5 owners, sadly, will still have to rely on a dongle.

One would think Sony would integrate the benefits of both earbuds and release a single product. That way, no one will be confused and Sony will not flood the market with buds that are too similar and cannot be easily differentiated. Especially if they are both priced the same and Pulse Explore also has Bluetooth for non-PlayStation devices.

Additionally, the company already produces some of the best wireless earbuds available. Wouldn't it be better to improve on these buds and add gaming capabilities at the same time, and if the InZone Buds can last 12 hours on a single charge, there's no reason why the successor to the WF-1000XM5 can't do the same.

The InZone Buds are available for pre-order now and will be available on October 15, according to Amazon's sales page.
