Meta AI Chatbot Announced - Tom Brady, Kylie Jenner, Snoop Dogg and More

In addition to the highly anticipated Meta Quest 3 and Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, Meta spent a lot of time talking about AI at today's Meta Connect event.

Rather than taking the traditional approach that OpenAI is taking with ChatGPT, Facebook's parent company wants to have a little more fun with the technology. To this end, Meta has begun to create an AI that is, as stated in the presentation, "more personable, has opinions and interests, and is a little more fun to interact with."

Meta showed off 28 AIs that users will soon be able to message on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Snoop Dogg's performance as a dungeon master and letting users choose their own adventures made a splash:

Meta's new AIs will be available in beta in the US starting today, so you won't have to wait long to actually interact with Meta's new AIs. However, the company plans to add new characters in the coming weeks, played by Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim, and Josh Richards.

We will definitely go hands-on with Meta's new AIs when they become available, but at this point we are still scratching our heads as to why they exist in the first place.

Would anyone really like to chat with an AI played by a celebrity to get workout tips, sports facts, or learn a new dance?

It is also worth noting that the pool of knowledge that Meta's AI can draw from is currently "limited to information that existed before 2023." However, Meta AI, Bull, and Perry have a more up-to-date knowledge base and can be asked at any time. However, it does not seem that chatting with a meta-AI is the fastest way to get information, but they can digest that information a bit more interestingly.

At the same time, since this was a major focus of Meta CEO Mark Zuckberg's presentation, it could be a bit more of a PR stunt to showcase Meta's AI technology and how quickly they can build new chatbots. These new AI characters may be just the beginning of McDonald's, Wendy's, Starbucks, and other brands building their own AI on their platforms. [I prefer Google Bard over ChatGPT because of its more conversational approach and similarities to Google Assistant.
