Google Pixel 8 AI Camera Feature Leaked Just Before Launch

Historically, the Google Pixel series has always been among the best camera phones. And the Pixel 8, which will be released this fall, seems to have a few AI-embedded tricks up its sleeve to maintain its strong record.

The official promo video, discovered by prolific Google leaker Kamila Wojciechowska and released by 91mobiles, explains all the clever tricks the Pixel 8's camera will feature.

Some of the improvements have been leaked before. We have already heard about the Night Sight video for capturing video in dark places and the introduction of Audio Eraser, which uses AI to detect undesirable sounds in the captured video.

Others, however, are entirely new, and the most interesting of these is not actually branded in the clip. The video shows a family taking pictures on a merry-go-round, and not everyone usually has the best photogenic look on their faces. However, the Pixel 8 takes a number of photos, and the user can mix and match the faces from each snap to create one perfect image.

The ability to edit nicely without Photoshop training doesn't stop there; a later clip shows a woman on the beach. After removing the lifeguard in the background in the current Magic Editor, users can also move the subject in the image or change the color of the sky to make it appear earlier or later in the day.

Sure, the results may bear little resemblance to the truth of the moment anymore, but if you don't mind that, they make for good Instagram fodder.

Another feature only briefly mentioned: Video Boost. The narrator says it uses AI to create films with a "smoother view," but does not explain what that actually means (although when it is explained, the footage is instantly brighter).

This, along with Pixel's photography staples like Night Sight, Astrophotography, Super Res Zoom, and Real Tone, make it a phone with artificial intelligence in a big way." It makes you wonder - can a phone be made by magic?" The promotion asks near the end of the clip. 'No. It's AI. That's what we do."

But photographers who want to capture the world without assistance may be more interested in a non-AI feature: pro control. Yes, Google is introducing manual settings "modeled after DSLR controls" in the Pixel 8. Although it only appears briefly in the video, it appears that both shutter speed and ISO can be controlled, as well as manual focus.

Wojciechowska also posted camera specs for both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Both models have a 50MP main camera, but the latter has a new 48MP ultrawide sensor along with a 48MP telephoto lens, making it a superior spec overall; the Pixel 8 only adds a 12MP ultrawide lens and a telephoto camera There is none.

Google has scheduled an event for October 4, and the Pixel 8 launch date is not too far away. Along with the phone, we are also expecting the Pixel Watch 2 with major improvements to its internals.
