What is Microsoft Copilot? What Copilot can do

Microsoft unveiled a host of new devices and features at this week's Surface event, including the Surface Laptop Go 3, Surface Laptop Studio 2, and an update to the star of the show, Microsoft's AI assistant Copilot The event was held at the Microsoft booth at the Microsoft booth at the Microsoft booth at the Microsoft booth in Tokyo.

Copilot is not limited to Windows 11, however. The company revealed that the AI assistant, powered by Microsoft Edge and Bing chat, will be able to communicate across all Microsoft applications. In short, Microsoft wants Copilot to be central to the Windows experience.

At the Surface event, Microsoft showed off some of its capabilities. In the demo, Copilot, which appeared as a chatbot built into the OS, was asked to check the user's flight information on a cell phone connected to Windows-11 Copilot was able to dig up details in seconds, without having to scroll through text conversations or email inboxes. dug out.

The assistant can even text people on your behalf. For example, if you are about to set up a quick movie date, you can have Copilot send all the upcoming showtimes to your significant other. Or if you receive a text from a friend saying that they are visiting the city and have some free time, Copilot can suggest places and events relevant to that particular time without you having to do anything. Of course, this raises privacy concerns. Microsoft says users can toggle whether Copilot can access their texts. [It would be hard to miss this new feature on the desktop, as the Copilot icon appears right next to the search bar in Windows 11. From there, you can ask Copilot to perform specific tasks, such as finding a music playlist that fits your mood, organizing endless windows, or turning on dark mode. And because it is based on Bing with ChatGPT, there are many things Copilot can do with text. It can summarize, describe, or rewrite text found on the web, or it can generate text based on prompts such as "Please write a paragraph about minimalist architecture."

With the latest Windows 11 update, Microsoft said it will bring Copilot to apps such as Paint, Photos, and Clipchamp, allowing users to automatically blur backgrounds and retouch images.

Copilot will roll out in Windows 11 on September 26 through a free update to Windows 11. Microsoft said it plans to bring Copilot to Bing and Edge later this fall, and Microsoft 365 a little later. Copilot will be introduced on November 1. For more news from this week's Surface event, check out our live blog here.
