Top 5 Movies Available This Weekend on Netflix, Disney Plus and More

It's another weekend to unwind and watch the best new movies on streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and Paramount Plus. Regardless of whether it still feels like summer outside, the fall TV season has officially begun.

It also means there are plenty of options if you're planning to catch a movie this weekend. At the top of the lineup is the Sundance Film Festival hit A Thousand and One. Then there's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," Seth Rogan's take on the half-shell hero: Mutant Mayhem, on Paramount Plus. And Hulu has added "No One Will Save You," an interesting home invasion thriller with an extraterrestrial twist.

Read on for our guide to the best movies to watch this weekend.

A.V. Rockwell's feature debut, "A Thousand and One," was released earlier this year to the astonishment of critics and audiences alike. The film is an unflinching portrait of a mother who will stop at nothing to keep her family together amidst a mountain of difficulties.

The story unfolds over a decade after Inez, played by Teyana Taylor, is released from prison in a phenomenal and heartbreaking performance and kidnaps her son Terry from the foster care system. Barely making ends meet, the two set out to regain a sense of home, identity, and stability in a rapidly changing New York City.

"Love at First Sight" is one of those movies where you know exactly what to expect. It's the epitome of a classic romantic comedy: two strangers meet cute on a plane and immediately fall in love.

This adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith's novel "The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight" is from the same team that brought us the "To All the Boys" series. When Hadley (Haley Lou Richardson) misses her flight from New York to London to attend her father's wedding, sparks fly when she bumps into Oliver (Ben Hardy) at the airport. The two get to know each other on the plane throughout the trip, but when it lands, they lose track of each other in the hustle and bustle of Heathrow Airport without exchanging numbers.

Cowabunga, man. Seth Rogen's take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ninja hit streaming this week. Mutant Mayhem reboots the origin story of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's character with a new twist that will still feel familiar to fans who grew up with the franchise.

The half-shell heroes scarf down pizza, beat the bad guys, and save the world. Typical teenager. Full of crunchy textures and bright colors, the animation is a joy to watch. Mutant Mayhem also features an all-star cast, including Jackie Chan as Splinter, the turtle teacher, Ice Cube as the classic TMNT villain Super Fly, and John Cena as Rocksteady.

Pixar's latest animated film had a rough time at the box office. The Elemental had the worst opening weekend in the studio's history, drowned out by publicity for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, I've heard enough people say that the trailer for "Elemental" hasn't been given its due credit, so I'm going to check it out myself.

The story follows the inhabitants of Element City, where the four elements of matter - fire, water, earth, and air - live together in a New York-style metropolis, with each element designated to its own corner of the city. Short-tempered Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis) falls in love with Wade Ripple (Mamoud Atiyeh) when he comes to fix a leak in her father's bodega. There is at least one joke about "chemistry". From what I've heard, it's an impactful film.

Shifting perspective from animated films, Hulu is now offering a new space sci-fi horror film. In "No One Will Save You," Booksmart's Caitlin Dever plays Brynn, an anxious, homely woman who wakes up one night to the sound of aliens invading her home.

While Brynn tries to fight back against the extraterrestrial intruder, it becomes clear that she is harboring a traumatic secret that has somehow turned the entire town against her. A unique aspect of the film is that the fight against the "Glades" and the interactions with the townspeople take place almost entirely without dialogue. While the no-speak style obviously won't be to everyone's taste, "Nobody to Protect Me" has generated enough buzz on social media to make it a worthy addition to any horror fan's viewing list.
