Apple Confirms iPhone 15 Setup Bug - Here's How to Fix the Problem

iPhone 15 devices have landed in users' hands starting today, allowing iPhone owners to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of Apple's smartphone. Unfortunately, that experience has been marred for some, as Apple has confirmed that there is a bug that could mess up the setup process - leaving affected handsets in an update loop.

You'll know if this has happened to you because your iPhone will be stuck in the boot screen - it's the Apple logo on a black background. It seems this bug is related to iOS 17, as Apple has confirmed that iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro devices running the new software may be affected. But it could also affect those trying to set up older devices and transfer data from iPhones already running iOS 17.

Thankfully, there is a solution to this problem. According to Apple, the device must be put into DFU mode and restored using a computer.

The process for doing this is much easier than it sounds, and the first step is to connect the iPhone to a PC or Mac with a cable - USB-C or Lightning depending on which iPhone you have. from there, the volume down button and side buttons need to be pressed and held until the iPhone restarts.

Then an image of your laptop and cable will appear on the screen. Once connected, your phone will appear in Finder (MacOS) or iTunes (Windows) - there is an option to Restore or Update. Pressing Restore will reset the phone.

Once reset, you can resume the setup process. If you have an iPhone 15, you may notice that it contains additional software updates that were not previously available.

Older models do not yet have this fix, Apple's advice is to transfer data using iCloud backup instead.
