Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3: Price, Specs, Release Date, and More

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3: Price, Specs, Release Date, and More

Microsoft this week unveiled its new Surface Laptop Go 3 laptop at its September Surface event.

This is the follow-up to the Surface Laptop Go 2 the company unveiled last year, and little seems to have changed about this year's model compared to what we saw last year. While it doesn't have the premium specs or light weight of Apple's MacBook Air M2, it remains a small, inexpensive laptop suitable for getting work done on the go.

But of course, the latest Laptop Go is much cheaper, starting at just $799. Here's what we know so far about the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 can be pre-ordered from Microsoft's website starting at $799 and will begin shipping on October 2.

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 maintains the same slim, thin bezel design as its predecessor.

It is approximately 0.62 inches thin, weighs 2.49 pounds, and is available in four colors: ice blue, sage, sandstone, and platinum.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, like its predecessors, has a 12.4-inch (1,536 x 1,024 pixels) PixelSense touchscreen.

This is a fairly low-resolution screen, less than 1080p, and thus does not offer a full HD experience when streaming movies or watching videos. Microsoft claims it can deliver 320 nits of brightness, which is not great, so don't expect to use this laptop a lot outdoors on bright days.

In terms of performance, the Microsoft Surface Go Laptop 3 doesn't have much to offer. The base model is powered by an older 12th generation Intel Alder Lake Core i5-1235UCPU, a chip that will soon be two years old.

The laptop also comes with 8-16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and we strongly recommend purchasing the 16 GB model if you are looking for snappy responsiveness. A laptop with such meager specs will quickly feel outdated, and doubling the RAM should give it the vitality it needs to make that step.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, like its predecessor, has a simple 720p webcam on the front.

The resolution is fairly low for a laptop webcam, and you will probably feel the lack of resolution when making video calls. Still, most laptop webcams don't make you look good, so you probably won't mind the relatively cheap image quality of this machine's camera.

Microsoft claims that you should expect the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 to last up to 15 hours on a full charge.

Of course, we won't know if this promise is really true until we actually use it in a test lab. For example, when we reviewed the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go, which advertised up to 13 hours of battery life, it lasted less than 8 hours in real-world testing.

Microsoft did not make any major changes to the Surface Laptop Go this time around, which is probably a good thing for fans of the company's less expensive Windows 11 laptop.

Personally, I wish the company had made more ambitious revisions; the Surface Laptop Go has an important place in the Surface laptop lineup thanks to its low cost of entry, but its inferior screen and CPU will likely handicap it in the long run. likely. Some of the best budget laptops on the market offer more features for the same price, so it will be interesting to see how Microsoft's low-cost laptops fare once they hit store shelves.
