iOS17 text tones cause uproar - here's how to undo it

iOS 17 brings countless changes to the iPhone. One of them is the default text tone, which Apple has changed from the classic "Tri-tone" to a quieter "Rebound." And some people are not happy with that

This does not mean that Apple is not giving you the choice of text tones you have and you can change the tone back to Tri-tone if you want. Unfortunately, people don't seem to realize this very well. But that doesn't stop people from complaining about how quiet Rebound is compared to the old default option.

Users have expressed their displeasure on Twitter/X, declaring the new tone "weird," "horrible," or that the new sound is now "submarine-like." Another user even says that the tone makes it feel like the phone is off, and various threads on Reddit have similar complaints, with one user hoping that Apple CEO Tim Cook will miss the notification and give users the option to revert.

If you're one of those people who really hate Rebound or any of the other standard text tones in iOS 17, here's how to revert the sound back to the old, inaudible jingle.

Just note that this change does not apply to all third-party apps.

You should now be able to receive text messages with the old Tri-Tone sound. After all, iOS 17 has 20 new ringtones and text tones, plus all the pre-upgrade options.

It should be a lot easier to find a sound that will ensure you hear notification pop-ups - that is, if you haven't switched your phone to silent mode.
