Amazon Adds Big Upgrades to New Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max

Amazon is significantly upgrading its Fire TV Stick models: at the Amazon devices event on September 20, the company revealed the new Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023), both of which are now available for pre-order.

Alexa and Fire TV VP Daniel Rausch called the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max "the best Fire TV stick we've ever made." 2Ghz quad-core processor, WiFi 6E, 16GB storage, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10 Plus, and Dolby Atmos support, among other great upgrades. The price is $59.999.

The standard Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) has an upgraded processor and 30% more power than the previous model; it offers Wi-Fi 6 and "brilliant" 4K streaming and is priced at $49.99.

Amazon also announced a new Fire TV sound bar that is compatible with all existing Fire TV streaming devices and TVs. Purchase of any of these devices comes with 6 months of the MGM Plus streaming service.

In addition to launching the devices, Amazon is also significantly enhancing the Fire TV search and interface experience. The company is trying to help Fire TV users find movies and TV shows more quickly and easily. The improved search functionality relies on an AI-enhanced Alexa that makes recommendations based on personal profiles and viewing history.

The Fire TV home screen will also introduce a new "Continue Watching" row that includes major providers such as Max, Disney, Hulu, and Prime Video. This will eliminate the need for Fire TV users to open various apps to see everything they are watching in progress.

These interface changes will begin rolling out to U.S. customers later this year.

The two new Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max models are fairly similar and thus only $10 apart.

The biggest difference is that the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023) has a more powerful processor and supports WiFi 6E. As Rausch noted in his presentation, the 4K Max has lower latency, higher speed, and less interference from other devices.

Both new Fire TV Stick models are available for pre-order now and will ship on September 27.
