Test the battery life of the iPhone 15 - here are the durations for all 4 models

There is good news. Battery tests show that every model in the iPhone 15 lineup has better battery life than the previous model. This is likely due to the combination of slightly larger batteries in each device and more efficient chips. But if you really value durability, the winner is clear.

We put the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max through the Tom's Guide battery test. And the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max came out on top. In fact, these two models are on our Best Battery Life list.

Here's how the new iPhone 15 compares to the iPhone 14 and other competing flagship models. Also, see the power of the A17 Pro chip in our iPhone 15 Pro benchmark.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 15 is reported to have a 3,349 mAh battery based on regulatory listings. (Apple does not list a battery size.) That would be slightly larger than the iPhone 14's 3,279 mAh battery. However, the drive time is significantly longer.

In Tom's Guide battery tests, the iPhone 15 lasts 11 hours and 5 minutes, which is about 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 14. This time also beat the regular Samsung Galaxy S23 with the screen in adaptive mode, but the S23 was even longer at 11 hours 20 minutes with the screen in 60 Hz mode. iPhone 15 also has a 60 Hz refresh rate.

The Google Pixel 7 only lasted 7 hours and 14 minutes.

This is what happens when you buy the iPhone 15 Plus, which costs $100 more than the regular iPhone 15. According to our tests, the iPhone 15 Plus lasted a whopping 14 hours and 14 minutes, compared to just under 12 hours for the iPhone 14 Plus. In other words, it lasted about two hours longer.

The Galaxy S23 Plus lasted 11:24 in adaptive mode and 12:08 in 60 Hz mode, so it lagged behind the iPhone 15 Plus by about two hours; the OnePlus 11's maximum duration was 13:10, so it was one hour shorter than the Apple device.

The iPhone 15 Pro had the lowest battery life in our tests. The device lasted 10 hours 53 minutes, 40 minutes longer than the iPhone 14 Pro.

This is not bad, as it is about an hour above the average smartphone's time in our tests. However, we consider a great battery life to be 11.5+ hours. Still, the iPhone 15 Pro lasted about three hours longer than the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Now we're talking. iPhone 15 Pro Max is the Pro model to get from Apple if you want serious staying power. In our tests we saw a battery life of 14 hours and 2 minutes, which is a bit shorter than the iPhone 15 Plus, but more than 20 minutes longer than the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

This easily puts the new Pro Max on our best smartphone battery life list. No other major flagship we have tested has such a good durability. The slightly larger battery obviously helped.

If battery life is a priority, I would buy the iPhone 15 Plus or iPhone 15 Pro Max. These models will cost more than the smaller ones, but you won't be reaching for a power outlet as quickly during the day. And that's a huge value for a lot of people.

For those who prefer a compact design {"data-model-name": "INIU 10000mAh Portable Charger", "data-widget-type": "review"}, the iPhone 15 is a little more than the iPhone 15 Pro. It lasts longer. However, if you're worried about whether you'll be able to use it for a long time on a single charge, you might want to opt for one of the best portable batteries.
