iPhone15 Charging Speeds May Be Faster Than Expected - But There's Bad News

Apple has not always been very forthcoming when it comes to iPhone specs, and the iPhone 15 is no exception. Officially, only the charging speed (50% in 30 minutes) when using the 20W USB-C charging brick has been revealed. But like the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro before it, that may be only part of the story.

According to Mac Otakara, the iPhone 15 can unofficially charge at a maximum of 27W. This is the same charging speed that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro were technically capable of, although not quite the 35W speed that was rumored prior to launch. Apple has not confirmed this, though.

To reach these speeds, of course, one must have the appropriate charger. iPhone 15 does not come with a charging brick, so one must purchase one. Apple would prefer that you purchase an official charger, but that is not necessary.

However, we have warned against buying the cheapest charger possible. [If you want to use the full 27W, you need Apple's 30W USB power adapter, which costs $39. That more than doubles the price, and at this early stage we still don't know how much impact it will have on charging times.

It would be great if Apple would just come out and tell us what the deal was, but it seems we won't know the full extent of the iPhone 15's charging capabilities until we can do some real world testing. However, while 27W is not the upgrade many were hoping for, it is still better than Apple's competitors' products.
