Samsung Galaxy S24 may beat iPhone 15 in RAM - but not in charging speed

New leaked information reveals that Samsung's Galaxy S24 may have much more RAM than the Galaxy S23 and the new iPhone 15. However, we are also hearing that Samsung may stick with its aging charging technology for this new Galaxy phone.

Let's start with the positives. As posted by leaker Revegnus, there are said to be 12GB RAM versions of the S24 and S24 Plus (but only the more expensive models with additional storage) and a default 16GB RAM for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is consistent with previous rumors).

Currently, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus have a meager 8GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra has 8GB by default, but 12GB in the version with more storage. more RAM in the S24 series, or at least an optional increase. would be a great upgrade over the already excellent S23 lineup. This would also pair nicely with the 2TB storage option for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which Samsung is said to be introducing.

With this RAM upgrade, the Galaxy S24 series would compare strongly with the newly announced iPhone 15 series. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus use just 6GB RAM

The way the iPhone operates can be not directly comparable to the way Android phones operate, but more RAM should mean better multitasking on the new Samsung phones.

Revegnus also mentions the chipsets these new Samsungs may use. Apparently, Samsung may use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for all Galaxy S23 Ultras worldwide, and the S24 and S24 Plus may use a mix of Snapdragon and Exynos chips depending on the region of sale.

This is different from the Galaxy S23 series, where all models use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip in all regions. It also does not match Samsung's previous system of offering Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S phones in the US but Exynos-powered ones in other regions, so precedent cannot be relied upon to corroborate the Revegnus leak.

On less positive news, the arrival of the Galaxy S24 series may not see a change in Samsung's current charging technology; as discovered by MyFixGuide, certification of the S24 series from 3C, the Chinese mobile device regulatory agency indicates that the standard Galaxy S24 provides up to 25W of wired charging, while the S24 Plus and S24 Ultra provide up to 45W of charging.

In case you are not familiar with the specs of the Galaxy S23 series, these are the same speeds as current phones. Therefore, it appears that Samsung will not upgrade for another year, and the Galaxy S24 is once again one of the slowest charging smartphones on the market.

This missing upgrade could prove to be particularly annoying if Samsung actually implements a laminated battery design to increase the phone's capacity. Unless Samsung has made other charging performance changes that have not yet leaked, more milliamp hours to fill means even longer charging times.

The 3C certification also states that the Galaxy S24 series will not ship with a charger. Samsung stopped doing this several years ago, so this is not much of a surprise, but it would give it an advantage over the iPhone 15 and perhaps the Google Pixel 8, which have been confirmed to not come with a charger.

We imagine Samsung intends to stick with a February launch for the Galaxy S24. According to other rumors, all of these models will have fully adaptive refresh rate displays, at least the Ultra and Plus models will have improved brightness, a 144Hz refresh rate like the iPhone 15 Pro, a 50MP telephoto camera, and titanium side rails. With upgrades exclusive to Ultra, Samsung's answer to the iPhone 15 series and the upcoming Google Pixel 8 series will be effective even without the charging speed improvements.
