France Bans iPhone 12 Due to Radiation Fears - Apple Responds

France took the bizarre step of banning the sale of the iPhone 12 shortly after Apple officially stopped selling the iPhone 12. Why? Because the phone was found to be emitting more radiation than allowed by French law. Now Apple is commenting on the situation and vowing to resolve it.

The main questions you might have in this situation are why it took over three years to realize that the iPhone 12's radiation violated the law, and why this phone is potentially dangerous to anyone using it.

According to French regulators, the gradual increase in iPhone 12 radiation is due to a series of software updates for the iPhone 12, which have been observed over time. That is why this problem was not detected at the time of its launch three years ago. It was not a problem at the time.

Apple also claims that the increased radiation is not a safety concern, instead claiming it is all due to "a specific testing protocol used by French regulators." Apple also reportedly instructed its technical support staff not to speak to customers about the issue and issued additional guidance to inform customers that Apple products undergo rigorous safety testing before they are sold

.

French ministers later said that although radiation levels exceeded legal limits, the iPhone 12s are still safe to use. However, the iPhone 12s cannot be purchased until Apple resolves the issue of excessive radiation. However, this update appears to be limited to the French market.

France has long been very strict regarding electromagnetic radiation from cell phones. Aside from imposing strict limits on the level of electromagnetic radiation absorbed from the body, another factor in these rules is that previously all cell phones had to be sold with some sort of hands-free kit.

So when Apple stopped bundling Earpods with the launch of the iPhone 12, the change did not affect the French market at the time. That law has since been changed, but the rules regarding radiation have apparently remained unchanged.

The French regulator ANFR said that if Apple's software update makes a difference in the radiation levels of the iPhone 12, then the iPhone 12 can resume sales.

However, it is not clear when that will be. And one has to wonder how popular the iPhone 12 will be in France, given that three new flagship iPhones and the third-generation iPhone SE have been released in the years since the iPhone 12's debut.
