Doctor Who" Season 14: Everything We Know So Far

Season 14 of "Doctor Who" is a bit more wiggly and time-lapsed than usual, in honor of the 60th anniversary of the long-running science fiction series.

Whovians are used to seeing the Doctor regenerate every few years. Several regenerations even appear, depending on the threat Team Tardis is facing at the time. For the first time, however, we are essentially moving forward in time, both in front of and behind the camera, thanks to a notable recurring character.

Yes, very confusing. The short version is that Russell T. Davies, who was the showrunner for the franchise's relaunch from 2005 to 2010, will return to the BBC's flagship show alongside former stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate. Tennant, however, will not be reprising his fan-favorite role as the 10th Doctor. Instead, he will play another 14th Doctor in three major specials, before passing the baton to the 15th Doctor, played by Nucci Gatwa, next year.

Now, before the much-anticipated anniversary celebration, let's take a look at everything we know so far about "Doctor Who" Season 14.

Unfortunately, the BBC has yet to announce a premiere date for "Doctor Who" Season 14 or a specific date for the holiday special in which Gatwa will take the Time Lord's place. However, we do know roughly when it will air on the BBC in the UK and on Disney Plus overseas.

The first episode of Doctor Who, with William Hartnell as the first Doctor, debuted on November 23, 1963. According to Radio Times, the first one-hour special should air near November 23, 2023, to mark this anniversary. Since episodes of the new show traditionally air on Saturdays, it is possible that it will air on a Saturday before or after that date.

After these three specials (titled "The Star Beast," "Wild Blue Yonder," and "The Giggle") are released, Gatwa's first official episode will be this year's holiday special. However, whether that will be a Christmas special or a New Year's special is currently unknown. Instead, the network only revealed that the episode will premiere in December 2023. After that, the eight-episode 14th season will officially begin in 2024.

David Tennant and Nucci Gatova will appear in "Doctor Who" season 14 as the 14th and 15th Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey, who travel through time and space on adventures and help those in need of help.

The Tardis (the Doctor's trusty ship/time machine, shaped like a police box) will be joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Temple-Noble and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, respectively.

In addition to these stars, there will be many guest appearances, including some familiar faces from "Doctor Who" history. For example, other members of the Noble family will appear, including Donna's mother Sylvia (Jacqueline King), grandfather Wilf (Bernard Cribbins, in his last role before his death in July 2022), and husband Sean Temple (Carl Collins).

In addition, Gemma Redgrave and Bonnie Langford return as Kate Lethbridge-Stuart, leader of UNIT, and Mel Bush, companion to the sixth and seventh doctors. However, Indira Varma, who previously appeared in this world as Susie Costello in the "Torchwood" spinoff, does not reappear. Instead, she will play an enigmatic character named Dutchess.

Other cast members include:

When we last saw the Doctor, she was probably the most trouble she had ever seen. In the final episode of Jodie Whittaker's appearance, titled "The Power of the Doctor," she confronted an army of Daleks and Cybermen led by the Master. Now, with the most evil villains working together to defeat her and destroy the planet, the 13th Doctor has no chance to save the day.

Fortunately, our allies are not our only enemies. Current companions Dan, Yaz, and Graham join forces with Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Vinder, and former companions Teagan and Ace to thwart attacks from multiple directions with the help of the Tardis' failsafe AI. However, after being mortally wounded in a confrontation with the Master, the Doctor is forced to regenerate and surprisingly takes on a 10th generation form.

Details about "Doctor Who" Season 14 are kept very closely under wraps, but the big question about the next chapter of the science fiction classic concerns Donna Noble, just as it was very painful to do so when WhoVian last saw this former companion, The Doctor went to great lengths to make sure that Donna did not remember him. If she did remember, she would also remember the sum total of his knowledge that she had absorbed during her confrontation with Davros. If thousands of years' worth of information came back to her mind, it would burn up and kill her.

However, given that she named her daughter Rose, it is possible that memories of her previous life began to seep into her mind. And if that is the case now, after all this time, it would mean that the right doctor (or the completely wrong doctor, depending on how you look at it) came to make a house call and check on his patient.
