Adidas' Adios Adizero Pro Evo 1 super shoe looks fast, but the price bothers me

[adidas has announced the launch of its lightest carbon fiber shoe to date, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. Weighing just 138 grams, the shoe is adidas' fastest super shoe to date and will premiere on the feet of the world's fastest runners during this fall's marathon season. [The shoe is 85 grams lighter than the Adios Pro 3 and features a new Lightstrike Foam Pro midsole for improved energy return. The stack height of this shoe is 39mm heel and 33mm forefoot, similar geometry to Nike's Alpafly Next% 2 with 40mm heel and 32mm forefoot, but the Adios Adizero Pro Evo 1 is 89g lighter. I've tested most of the best carbon fiber running shoes on the market, and this is by far the lightest shoe I've seen.

To achieve this dramatic weight change, Adidas optimized the shoe to be lighter. They completely removed the shoe's sockliner and redesigned the upper from a super translucent material. Adidas says this "serves as a metaphor for lightness."

All of this sounds very exciting, but there is a catch. All that speed and technology comes at a price. The shoes will be available to the public as well as the elite starting September 14, but they are limited, with only 521 pairs available. Adidas has stated that a second release will be available this November.

Unlike other super shoes on the market, this shoe does not appear to last as long as its competitors. That means we won't be seeing these shoes in front of a large crowd at the next race, but they could be on the podium: on September 24, four of adidas' elite athletes will be competing in the Berlin Marathon.
