The iPhone 15 Pro is barely in the hands of reviewers, but the device's A17 Pro chipset is already proving its worth, with Revegnus and MySmartPrice publishing the first Geekbench 6 benchmark results.

Specifically, these results are for the phones named iPhone 16.1 and iPhone 16.2. Based on Apple's previous codenames, these are likely to refer to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, respectively.

Apple spent a considerable amount of time at the latest Apple event talking about the A17 Pro chip. This chip appears to be made using a more efficient 3nm process that is not currently available in any other chipset on the market. As a result, CPU and machine learning performance has been boosted over the A16 Bionic chip used in the iPhone 14 Pro, and the GPU is even more powerful with support for ray tracing. Averaging the results shown in the leaked screenshots and comparing them to the average Geekbench 6 results of other related and rival devices shows that the results are significantly better than the iPhone 14 Pro, but the iPad Pro and its laptop-grade Apple M2 chip is still not as good as the iPad Pro and its laptop-grade Apple M2 chip. Compared to major Android rivals, even Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is a great performer, cannot match the iPhone 15 Pro's results, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro lags further behind.

It is fortunate that the iPhone 15 Pro has more than just computing power, as performance is often a minor consideration for most phone buyers. For example, the camera system is enhanced by a new 24MP shooting mode and the iPhone 15 Pro Max's periscope camera. In addition, there is a lighter titanium alloy body, a new USB-C port with improved data transfer speeds, and a customizable action button in place of the mute switch.
