Meta Quest 3 Specs Leaked - And It's Almost Good News

MetaQuest 3 will be announced at MetaConnect later this month. And we already have some indication of what to expect. But now, the full picture may almost be revealed.

That's because the Quest 3 spec sheet has leaked. Online store UnboundXR, which was also the source of the recent Quest 3 accessory leak, also leaked the specs for the Quest 3 headset itself (h/t Phone Arena).

And for the most part, it's good news, though most of it we already knew. The leaked display resolution is 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye, which was expected after Meta announced that the Quest 3 display resolution would be nearly 30% higher than the Meta Quest 2 resolution. Also, the display refresh rate is reported to be 120 Hz, which has not yet been confirmed by Meta, but is what we had expected.

The processor and battery life specs are also as expected. Leaked specs indicate that the Quest 3 headset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 (Gen 2), which matches what Meta has officially announced (an unnamed next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chip). Battery life is reported to be 3 hours, which is consistent with Meta's Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth's statement that the Quest 3's battery life is "about the same as the Quest 2, plus or minus."

The only thing we did not know previously that may now be revealed is the RAM and storage options for the new Meta VR headset. According to this leak, the Quest 3 will have 12GB of RAM, which is a significant improvement over the 6GB of RAM found in the Meta Quest Pro, but not the 6GB of RAM in the Quest 2. Instead, you can choose between a 128GB storage model, which is known to cost $499 in the US at launch, or a 512GB storage model.

To me, this is either disappointing or makes me question the validity of this leak. I'm leaning toward the former, given that a lot of what is in this leak is consistent with what we've come to expect and/or what Meta has already officially announced, and Meta may know something I don't, but I'm not sure if the 256 Skipping Goldilocks storage sizes like the GB model feels like a mistake. Especially since the storage upgrades are likely to be prohibitively expensive.

Hopefully, this leak just misses something and the 256GB model of the Quest 3 will be available after all. We should know for sure later this month as Meta will likely release the VR headset at Meta Connect on September 27. Stay tuned for ongoing coverage so you can learn everything you need to know about the Meta Quest 3 before you buy.
