With its own Lightning charging cable, Apple has long been an outlier in the smartphone market. That's because all four models are rumored to adopt USB-C ports in order to comply with European Union regulations. And with this transition, Apple is reportedly planning to redesign many of its accessories to match the USB-C ports.

This is according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who outlined Apple's plans on the latest episode of the MacRumors podcast. According to him, the iPhone maker aims to switch its catalog of accessories to USB-C ports by next year, a timeline similar to the transition to the Lightning connector in 2012.AirPods, Mac accessories, MagSafe battery packs, etc. top that list.

"We will need a new MagSafe Duo with USB-C," Gurman told the outlet, adding that Apple "could update the MagSafe battery pack" to add USB-C.

It remains to be seen if these refreshed accessories will be seen at Apple's "Wonderlust" showcase next week. Garman said that he does not expect "any curvy or completely new types of accessories to be announced" at the event. The closest we're likely to see is a new AirPods Pro with a USB-C port on the charging case.

Although we won't see it at next week's showcase, Garman said Apple is preparing an upgraded version of its MagSafe Battery Pack. Most interestingly, this next-generation battery pack will apparently allow multiple devices to be placed on either side of the battery pack for simultaneous wireless charging, and will allow multiple battery packs to be "daisy-chained" together. And of course, whenever Apple announces this, it will surely be on the list of accessories that will get a USB-C port refresh.
