Pixel Watch 2 Officially Announced, Google Releases Teaser Video - Latest News

Google's October event invitation is very vague, simply promising to introduce "the latest addition to the Pixel device portfolio." But with the launch of the iPhone 15 just a few days away, Google decided to make things a little more clear. First it teased the Pixel 8 yesterday, and now it has released a short teaser for the Pixel Watch 2.

"You're in for a good time," the caption of the 15-second teaser promises.

At first glance, one would struggle to spot the differences between this new wearable and the original Pixel Watch released last October, but there are subtle differences.

The most important of these are visible when you get a shot of the back of the watch. First, there's the new IP68 rating, which promises test-level dust resistance alongside the 5 ATM water resistance offered by the original model.

More importantly, however, the sensor array appears to have been redesigned. This could be for a variety of reasons, but it adds credence to the suggestion that the Pixel Watch 2 will inherit the Fitbit Sense 2's continuous skin electrical activity sensor for stress measurement.

Finally, the crown appears smoother, rounder, and slightly flush with the screen.

Stress sensors aside, these may not seem like particularly compelling reasons to spend another $349 on a smartwatch (even if it should make data transfer to the new device easier), but the most important change may not be visible to the naked eye.

In addition to featuring a new watch face that looks very stylish (which may or may not be on the original wearable), the Pixel Watch 2 is rumored to have a fairly modern processor.

While the original Pixel Watch skimped on the Exynos 9110 (a chipset dating back to 2018), the sequel will reportedly feature the Snapdragon W5, which was introduced just last year. This should not only make the watch feel a bit lighter in everyday use, but also help address the Pixel Watch's Achilles heel, a battery life that struggles to go a day without going to the charger without cutting back on features.

This is unconfirmed at this time, but all should be revealed within a month. The next Made By Google event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, where the new watch will be unveiled along with the Pixel 8.
