Godzilla Invades Apple TV Plus with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Apple has released the first trailer for Monarch, about its plans to bring Godzilla from the big screen to the living room: the Legacy of Monsters

The series, which launches this November, is part of Legendary's Monsterverse and is a sequel to 2014's GODZILLA Godzilla, and is a sequel to GODZILLA Godzilla. The setting is San Francisco, now in ruins after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans, but the series actually spans three generations, with military officer Lee Shaw played by both Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt, depending on the era.

"After the roaring battle between Godzilla and Titan that decimated San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that the monsters are real, "Monarch" spans two generations: "Legacy of Monsters" follows two siblings who follow in their father's footsteps and uncover a family connection to a secret organization known as the Monarchs. The Legacy of Monsters follows two siblings who follow in their father's footsteps to uncover their family's connection to a secret organization known as the Monarchs," Apple explains in a synopsis accompanying the video.

"A dramatic saga spanning three generations reveals buried secrets and the ways in which epic, earth-shattering events reverberate through our lives.

The trailer, of course, does not reveal these buried secrets, but John Goodman reprises his role as Bill Randa in "Kong: Skulls of the Giant God" and we see flashes of the giant monster that we cannot wait to see fight.

The trailer does a good job of reassuring audiences that the spectacle is exactly the kind of devastating spectacle they have come to expect from the "Monsterverse" franchise on the big screen, streaming to their homes on an episodic basis.

Not mentioned in the trailer is support for "spatial imagery," an immersive 3D format made possible by Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset.

Last month, ScreenTimes editor Sigmund Judge said that production insiders revealed that the show is being recorded in this format, a dramatic spectacle that can certainly shine for early adopters of the $3,500 headset would be one of a kind.

However, this is not necessarily confirmed by the teaser trailer. In fact, doing so could be positively damaging to the show, given that it will appear before the Apple Vision Pro. In order for a streaming series to maximize its chances of being renewed for an additional season, it would need to achieve strong ratings from day one.

The 10-part series kicks off with two episodes on Friday, November 17, and then switches to a weekly schedule through January 12. While you wait, here are the best Apple TV shows you can watch now.
