First up is Apple's next-generation iPhone 15 series. Apple is expected to unveil four models, the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max, and contrary to rumor, Gurman said the company will keep the "Max" naming system, rather than calling it the iPhone 15 Ultra as some have speculated.

The standard iPhone 15 and larger 15 Plus will retain the aluminum sides and glass back as seen on the base iPhone 14 series models. The screen sizes will also be the same, with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively, but they will appear slightly larger because Apple has shaved the bezels down to just 1.5 mm. To achieve the slimmer bezel, Apple used a new manufacturing process called LIPO (low injection pressure over molding).

Non-Pro models will also feature Dynamic Island, first introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. This is one of iPhone's newest and most novel features, replacing the traditional iPhone notch with an interactive way for users to instantly access notifications and mini-players. The camera upgrade seen on last year's high-end models will also be featured on the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, with the main camera sensor changing from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels.

Meanwhile, the high-end options, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, will switch from stainless steel to a more durable and lighter titanium frame. Gurman says, "The Pro Phone's titanium will have a brushed finish, replacing the fingerprint-prone steel used from the iPhone X line."

But the new look is not the only upgrade. iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will reportedly feature Apple's latest and greatest A17 Bionic chip for a massive boost in terms of performance and especially battery life. In addition, the ring/mute switch will be eliminated on the Pro models in favor of an action button. The Action button can be programmed with useful shortcuts such as "Do Not Disturb" and "Low Power Mode." iPhone 15 Pro Max is set to get the biggest camera upgrade of the bunch: the latest periscope-style telephoto system with up to 6x optical zoom

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is also the first iPhone 15 Pro to feature a camera upgrade.

All four iPhone 15 models are expected to make the final switch from Apple's proprietary Lightning port to USB-C, in accordance with EU regulations. They will also feature a U2 Ultra Wideband semiconductor and enhanced location capabilities for more accurate tracking in the Find My app. As for color variations, the regular model will come in pink, black, white, blue, and yellow, while the Pro model will come in gray, black, dark blue, and white, Gurman said.

On the wearables front, Gurman said Apple has two announcements in the works: the Apple Watch Series 9 (available in current 41mm and 45mm sizes) and a second, more rugged Apple Watch Ultra that will stick to the 49mm size.

Appearance-wise, these new Apple watches will not look significantly different from their predecessors. Apple is planning new materials and colors, though, including the use of more recycled metals and a black Ultra option.

The biggest upgrade will be under the hood, where the watches will feature the first new chips since the Series 6 in 2020. like the iPhone 15, the Series 9 and new Apple Watch Ultra will feature the U2 Ultra Wideband chip and Find My feature will be enhanced. Several sensor and internal component upgrades are also planned, including a new version of Apple's optical heart rate sensor.

Last but not least, the iPhone 15's USB-C charging capabilities are expected to be included in the AirPods as Apple moves its Lightning-based accessories to the new standard. The first of these is the AirPods Pro, but standard AirPods and AirPods Max may be upgraded to USB-C charging as early as next year.

In addition to changing charging ports, the earbuds will also receive software updates that include the ability to mute and unmute from the AirPods themselves, improved automatic device switching, and "Conversation Awareness" that automatically mutes media when it detects someone talking to the wearer. A new feature called Conversation Awareness will be added. New health features like temperature sensing and a new hearing test system are also in the works, but Garman said Apple will likely release them at a later date.
