It's a new year, which means that streaming services, including Hulu, are launching a slew of new shows. New shows on Hulu this month include a comedic murder mystery series and a documentary about cults and the very popular chili pepper. Also making their debut are two original Korean series, the action thriller A Shop for Killers and the romantic drama Tell Me That You Love Me.

The New Year also means new programming on linear TV, with Hulu offering Fox's animated series "The Great North" and "Grimsburg," the game show "I Can See Your Voice," "We Are Family," and the latest episodes of "The Floor. The final season of Freeform's drama "Good Trouble" and the first season of Disney+ Marvel's superhero series "Echo" will also be available on Hulu this month.

This five-episode documentary series will address two themes essential to modern true crime stories: cults and murder. The title refers to the daughters of cult leader and murderer Arville LeBaron, who led fundamentalist Mormonism in Utah and California in the 1970s, married 13 women, and had over 50 children.

LeBaron also ordered the assassination of rivals, associates, and even family members, and he was so in control of his followers that some of them carried out his assassination orders even after his death.In this series produced by ABC News Studios, LeBaron's own children tell of their father's reign of terror and the and their firsthand experiences of the violence he used to keep people under his control.

Premiered January 4 on Hulu

Actor Jake Johnson continues to be beloved for his role as bartender Nick Miller on the FOX sitcom New Girl, now on Hulu. The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival, where Variety called it "silly and frequently surprising."

Johnson plays an aimless, lonely man. He is recruited by a mysterious organization to take part in a game in which he is pursued by assassins who can only attack him alone. This forces him to leave his comfort zone and spend time with people, including a fellow contestant played by Anna Kendrick. Finding humor in running from professional assassins is not easy, but Johnson seems to be the right man for the job.

Premieres January 12 on Hulu

Originally released under the even cheekier title "Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem," the comedy-mystery series stars Mandy Patinkin as the world's greatest detective and is filled with rich and powerful people He leads a murder investigation on a luxury cruise ship filled with the rich and powerful. He is unwillingly paired with a brilliant young woman (Violet Bean) who inadvertently finds herself the prime suspect in the murder.

Creators Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams cite the works of iconic mystery novelist Agatha Christie as their inspiration, and Hulu also has another humorous detective series starring the respected veteran actor, the hugely Death and Other Details seems to be blazing its own trail with a darker, more twisted sensibility.

Premiering January 16 on Hulu

Is there really enough variety in the world of chili peppers to warrant a 10-episode docu-series? Apparently so. The appeal of the series undoubtedly lies in how much more we can learn about the super hot chili peppers that inspire such intense devotion. Narrated by actor Ben Schwartz ("Parks and Recreation," "Sonic the Hedgehog"), the series promises to delve into every corner of the spicy subculture.

This includes spending time with growers who use the latest technology to cultivate the hottest peppers possible and "self-proclaimed chile heads" who are always on the hunt for the hottest peppers they can consume. Thanks to online phenomena like Hot Ones, enduring spicy food has become a badge of honor. Super Hot also follows the effort to find a chili pepper that surpasses the current world's hottest record holder.

Premieres January 22 on Hulu

Model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen teams up with celebrity chef David Chang for Freeform's original food series that tours Los Angeles' lesser known, hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Chan goes into the kitchen and consults with the chef to prepare the dishes, while Chrissy and comedian Joel Kim Booster check out the dining area and sample the food.

Teigen is the author of several cookbooks and has appeared on "Top Chef," so she knows a lot about cooking and how to chat with fellow celebrities. Guests on the first season include Kumail Nanjiani, Regina Hall, Sim Liu, and Teigen's husband John Legend, who will join Teigen and Booster to chat over delicious food.
