Apple in 2024: Apple Vision Pro, iPhone 16, and All the New Products Coming

Yes, Apple in 2024 is about sequels of various kinds, but this will be the first time since the original Apple Watch in 2015 that Tim Cook will announce a device in an entirely new category. This time it will be the Apple Vision Pro, which could appear as early as February.

That would put a lot of pressure on Apple to justify this new $3,500 spatial computer. Will it be the game changer people have been waiting for, or will it be a taste of an overambitious and expensive future?

We've been following all of Apple's biggest rumors for 2024, and these are the most anticipated products: the iPhone 16, the first iPad with an OLED display, and the Apple Watch 10.

The Apple Vision Pro represents a leap forward in wearables. It has the potential to be the best VR headset as well as the most advanced mixed reality headset. Apple calls this category spatial computing, and the headset is designed to be the ultimate work and play device.

With the Apple Vision Pro, you can watch movies on a giant screen, play photos and videos in 3D spatial video (including those recorded with the iPhone 15 Pro), and work from multiple desktops floating in front of you. You can also make FaceTime calls in the headset with your own digital avatar.

I had a chance to touch the Apple Vision Pro in a demo and was blown away by the gesture-based interface, as the headset can track your eyes and hands. Also, the augmented reality experience is truly immersive. However, $3,500 is a lot to spend on a headset, and even if it beats everything else, the EyeSight feature that allows others to see a digital replica of your eyes through the headset is creepy.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series should both arrive in September, loaded with upgrades. And smarter Siri and AI are very likely to top that list.

Apple is reportedly investing heavily in AI for 2024 and beyond, and has found a way to bring LLM (Large Language Model) chatbots like ChatGPT to devices without having to rely on the cloud; get ready for AppleGPT, which will be a great way to bring AI to the cloud and to the device.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 should have a 3nm processor, and all four iPhone 16 models could feature a new Capture button for easy photo and video snapping. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available in 6 .1" and 6.7" to larger 6.3" and 6.9" displays.

In terms of cameras, the iPhone 16 could see a vertical camera arrangement to allow for spatial video capture for the Apple Vision Pro. And both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could boast a 5x tetra prism lens.

The 2024 iPad is likely to be an eventful product category for Apple. The company is said to be releasing its first ever OLED iPad Pro, which will significantly improve the quality of the 2024 iPad Pro's display. These slates will also feature the faster Apple M3 chip, and the largest iPad Pro should be 13 inches instead of 12.9 inches.

The next iPad Pro may also feature a new glass body that will allow MagSafe wireless charging. There is also a possibility of a new Magic Keyboard with a sturdier aluminum frame and a revamped Apple Pencil.

Other rumored new iPads include an entry-level iPad 11 with a faster chip and new Apple Pencil support with USB-C, and a new iPad Mini 7 with a larger 8.3-inch display.

There could be not one but two new AirPods 4 models in 2024, and Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning two new non-Pro 4th generation models Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning two new non-Pro 4th generation models it is planning, according to the report. These models will reportedly have an updated design, a redesigned case with USB-C charging, and active noise cancellation on the top model. In other words, there is no need to purchase the AirPods Pro 2 to get that feature.

While it doesn't sound like a major upgrade, the new AirPods Max 2 with USB-C charging and new colors may finally be on the way. Expect a cheaper starting price and a less ridiculous AirPods Max charging case to appear as well.

While Apple continues to work on the patent dispute that temporarily halted sales of the Apple Watch 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, it is also working on a new Apple Watch 10 model that should introduce major health upgrades.

The new Apple Watch will reportedly feature not only a new design, but also the ability to detect high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Users will receive alerts and suggestions for follow-up tests. Blood pressure measurement from the wrist, however, is not expected in this year's model.

The M3 chip has already proven to be quite a beast with the MacBook Pro 14-inch with M3 and the MacBook Pro 16-inch with M3 Max. However, Apple has plans to include the M3 chip in its MacBook Air series as well.

Apple is said to be launching the MacBook Air M3 along with the new iPad in early 2024. However, it could be announced in spring or summer at the latest. Therefore, both the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Airs are expected to feature the more powerful M3 chip, with 10 GPU cores instead of eight.

In addition, Apple is reportedly exploring cheaper MacBook options that would ostensibly replace the MacBook Air M1 and better compete against the best Chromebooks, but do not expect Chromebook-level prices from Apple.
