Nothing Phone (2a) could appear as early as February 2024.

We've already heard that instead of releasing the Nothing Phone (3), the next step for emerging Chinese smartphone brand Nothing is to make a light version called the Nothing Phone (2a).

The report from SmartPrix adds more meat to the bones already established by leaker Yogesh Brar. The main details of each leak are consistent with what we have heard previously. Both reports claim that the device will feature a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, a 120Hz OLED screen, and dual 50MP cameras. Nevertheless, the latest report reveals a few details about the specs and model number.

According to new rumors, the Nothing Phone (2a) will feature two Samsung 50MP cameras. The primary lens is the S5KGN9 with a 1/1.5" sensor and the ultra-wide is the S5KJN1 with a 1/2.76" sensor. If this doesn't mean much, all we really need to know is that these are the same sensors used in the original Nothing Phone (1) and its successor.

The AMOLED panels will be manufactured by Visionox and BOE in China and are said to have a resolution of 1,084 x 2,412. Again, this is the same resolution as the Nothing Phone (2). In fact, chipset aside, it is hard to imagine that the Nothing Phone (2a) will really be different enough to be less expensive than the Nothing Phone (2).

Of course, some questions still remain. Neither leak hints at the size of the battery, and it is possible that the construction will be a bit less luxurious to cut costs; Blar calls the phone "good for $400," suggesting that Nothing is trying to cut $200 from the Nothing Phone (2)'s base price. The new report has some details, including "wider availability," its color choices (black or white), and some bright and abstract official wallpaper.

If the leak is legitimate, the rest of the details should be known soon; both Blar and SmartPrix expect the phone to be announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The latter notes that Nothing will be holding an event titled "Nothing to See" on February 27, so mark your calendars.
