With the global launch of the OnePlus 12 series scheduled for January 23, the release is imminent. And a recent leak by well-known tipster Max Jambor may have given us more information about the OnePlus 12R entry-level model.

We knew the OnePlus 12 was coming after it was officially unveiled at a launch event in China. What we didn't expect was that a budget version would be available in the US and Europe, something OnePlus has never done before.

There is not much concrete information about the OnePlus 12R yet, except that it has been confirmed for release. However, what we can infer from past OnePlus R models launched elsewhere in the world is that the R series will be cheaper, entry-level versions with less impressive specs. The leaked details seem to confirm this, as the performance of many of the phones rumored to be released in 2024 is not up to par. However, the OnePlus 12R still seems to be a reasonable option for those on a limited budget.

According to leaks, the OnePlus 12R will feature a 6.78-inch ProXDR display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and made of tempered Gorilla Glass Victus 2. That would make the display design remarkably similar to the OnePlus 12, but we do not know if the OnePlus 12R's screen brightness will be the same as the rumored 4,500 nits.

It appears that the OnePlus 12R may ship with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which would certainly help keep the price down as most major developers move to the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Gen 2 is currently a year old, but it is by no means inferior and is one of the best options for Android phones on the market, especially with regard to power consumption.

It states that the OnePlus 12R will have a 5,500 mAh battery, a size larger than the 5,400 mAh battery in the OnePlus 12. This could indicate that the OnePlus 12R is a longer lasting phone, but the different chips and other components between the two phones may affect this as well.

The post also claims that the OnePlus 12R will have a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. In terms of performance, these should provide decent pictures, as the OnePlus 12 also uses a 50MP main sensor. However, the other cameras are a downgrade from the standard 12, which features a 48MP ultra-wide lens, a 64MP telephoto lens, and a 16MP selfie camera.

It is important to note that these OnePlus 12R specs are all hearsay at this point, even if the Chinese version of the OnePlus 12 is known and will likely not change much for the international version. For the time being, details will only be known when they are finally announced at the OnePlus "Smooth Beyond Belief" event at the end of January.
