7 Best Movies Streaming This Weekend on Max, Netflix, Prime Video and More (Dec. 16-17)

As you do your final holiday shopping (and check out Amazon's Christmas gifts), you'll want to make time to watch the new movies that will be available on streaming platforms this weekend.

First, Barbie is moving from video-on-demand to Max, allowing subscribers to stream to their heart's content.

But that's not all we have to look forward to this weekend. There's also the Coen Brothers' classic film, the sequel to "Chicken Run," and an action movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson.

This summer's most popular films have finally been released by Video on Demand. Max subscribers can stream Greta Gerwig's masterpiece until they get bored. For those of you who don't already know the plot: Barbie, played by Margot Robbie, seems to have it all in Barbie Land: a perfect life, a dream house, and the perfect boyfriend, Ken (Ryan Gosling).

But when an existential crisis strikes, Barbie travels to a strange outside world. There, she is confronted with the uncomfortable truth that Barbie has been told is not the end of sexism and patriarchy. It is a wake-up call to feminists who do not preach or pander, and is positively infectious, tempered by a cheeky and often surreal sense of humor.

The TV series Fargo is currently in its fifth season. This Coen brothers film follows Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) as she investigates a series of murders in wintery Minnesota. Not to mention the delightful Midwestern accents of McDormand and William H. Macy. Steve Buscemi is also entertaining as one of the accomplices, but he meets a rather grisly end. McDormand won the Academy Award for Best Actress, and the Coen brothers won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
