The OnePlus 12 made its official debut in China earlier this month and will be available in other countries in early 2024. And now OnePlus has confirmed that the global launch of the OnePlus 12 will take place on January 23.

OnePlus announced the date as part of the handset maker's 10th anniversary celebration and confirmed that the event will also see the global launch of the OnePlus 12R. This will be the first time the company's R series will ship outside of China and India.

The R series is meant to be OnePlus' "entry-level flagship" smartphone. It is priced lower than the main OnePlus flagship and its specs are somewhere between the flagship and the mid-range Nord series. In that sense, the OnePlus 12R is a bit like the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, but will probably be less expensive, as will the OnePlus style.

While there is no pricing information for the OnePlus 12 internationally yet, the Chinese announcement did reveal the phone's hardware specs. We are looking at a 6.82" 2K OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, a 5,400MAh battery, 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, IP65 water and dust resistance, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

The rear camera on the OnePlus 12 has three lenses: a 50MP main shooter, a 48MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 64MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. On the front there is a 32MP selfie camera. Memory is available in 12GB, 16GB, and 24GB, and storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Despite rumors, it is not known exactly what specs the OnePlus 12R will have. It is expected to have a slightly older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a 5,500mAh battery, 100W wired charging, and a 6.78-inch 1.5K display. the OnePlus 12R's camera setup includes a 50MP main shooter, 8MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 32MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom.

OnePlus claims that it will show that it does not need names like "Plus," "Pro," and "Ultra" for its phones to provide the best hardware and software experience. Of course, they conveniently ignore the fact that OnePlus did exactly that with the OnePlus 10 Pro in 2022. Presumably, such a situation will not be repeated anytime soon.

Both the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R will be announced at the OnePlus Smooth Beyond Belief Launch Event. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. IST (9:00 a.m. EST, 6:00 a.m. PST, 2:00 p.m. GMT) on January 23.
