Asus has been relatively tight-lipped about its upcoming phone, the Asus ROG Phone 8, in preparation for its unveiling at CES in Las Vegas next month. However, WindowsReport has revealed a wealth of details about the upcoming phone.

Asus introduced a strong contender in 2023 with the Asus ROG Phone 7. That phone has an awe-inspiring battery life and a well-designed screen with a variable refresh rate that helps create an immersive gaming experience. However, a few things needed to be done to make it appeal to a slightly more mainstream audience.

In our review, the camera was not up to the standard expected in 2023. The included camera was adequate, but the telephoto lens was noticeably lacking. We also mentioned that the size of the bezel made the screen seem smaller and more compact than it actually was. However, it seems that Asus had similar thoughts, and according to this leak, the company has made significant changes in its latest model.

First of all, it is worth noting that the Asus ROG Phone 8's screen seems to have a much thinner bezel and a punch hole camera, as previously reported. The base ROG Phone 8 is believed to have a 6.78-inch FHD+ Samsung AMOLED, while the ROG Phone 8 Plus is listed as the only model to support HDR 10.

What this indicates is that the ROG Phone 8's screen has a dynamic color range and is equipped with Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which provides significant damage protection.

The leaked information does not reveal details about the camera on the base ROG Phone 8, but it does reveal details about the ROG Phone 8 Plus. The phone is expected to feature a Sony IMX890 50MP main sensor, a 13MP ultrawide, and a 32MP third camera (3x zoom). The front punch-hole camera is likely to be 32 megapixels.

While not the most impressive setup and somewhat similar to the camera on the previous model, a 32MP 3x zoom camera would be a welcome addition. Overall, it is relatively decent for taking pictures, but falls short compared to other phones on the market.

However, those who choose a gaming handset may not be as concerned about camera performance as the average cell phone user. Gamers are more concerned with the power of the phone, including the chipset, RAM, and battery. As expected, the base model of the ROG Phone 8 will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and 12GB of RAM, while the Plus may have a larger 16GB or 24GB of RAM.

Surprisingly, it appears that the battery may be downgraded. According to this leak, the ROG Phone 8's battery is only listed as 5,500 mAh equivalent for both the base and Plus models; given that the ROG Phone 7's battery was listed at 6,000 mAh, this would indicate a reduced life span. However, it is important to note that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could be the deciding factor in whether the ROG Phone 8 can surpass the previous model's 18-hour battery life test.

Once more details are revealed about the ROG Phone 8's internal hardware, especially the battery, interesting questions will arise about how it compares to the previous model.

However, the new sleek design and camera setup are very aesthetically pleasing; the RAM and processor are capable of outperforming some gaming laptops, but we won't know more until we get a chance to test it ourselves. We won't know.
