Netflix's new film "Leave the World Behind" is making a big splash online. Despite a lukewarm 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and an absolute 35% from viewers, it immediately topped Netflix's Top 10 Movies chart.

If "Leave This World Behind" disappointed you, you are not alone. But your thirst for apocalyptic thrillers can be quenched elsewhere, and here are five films like "Leave the World Behind" that I can personally recommend, all but one of which scored over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

"The Quiet Place" is a film that if you could die by making a sound ...... which is a rather unbelievable setup. Starring real-life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as Evelyn and Lee Abbott, "The Quiet Place" is an apocalyptic thriller set in a world devastated by an alien invasion. The aliens won't kill you if they see you, but they will kill you if they hear you. It's another story. Millicent Simmons stars as Regan, the couple's deaf daughter. - MM

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96 Streaming now on Paramount Plus

Jordan Peele is a master of the modern horror genre, especially in homes that should be safe spaces. All three of his films, "Get Out," "Us," and "Nope," take place primarily in and around a house that is slowly turning into a hellscape, as it did in "Leaving the World Behind" In the second film, Adelaide (Lupita Nyongo) and her husband Gabe (Winston Duke), a young man who has been living in a house that has been turned into a hellscape, and their two children rent a vacation home.

Soon, however, their idyllic summer home is invaded by a family of four who are terrifying doppelgangers. The "Tether" family shares a soul with them, and their goal is to break that bond by murder. Adelaide learns the shocking truth about how the "Tethers" came to be and their connection to their mirror image, Red. - KW

Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain co-star. Curtis LaForche is an ordinary Ohio man, but his inner life is anything but. Though he keeps it hidden from his wife Samantha and his deaf daughter, he has apocalyptic dreams and hallucinations of storms.

Worried that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, Curtis devotes his feverish energy to renovating the storm shelter in his backyard, which strains his relationship with Samantha and his neighbors. - KW

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92 Streaming Now on Max

Technically part of "Cloverfield," there's not much to connect "10 Cloverfield Lane" to its 2008 predecessor. Nevertheless, it is still a great science fiction horror film. In this film, Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the role of Michelle. When Michelle wakes up, she is in Howard Stambler's (John Goodman) bunker after a major car accident. However, when she tries to get out, she is told that she cannot leave because of an apocalyptic event that makes the outside world uninhabitable.

The twist in "10 Cloverfield Lane" is brilliantly staged, and the small ensemble cast is perfectly balanced. If you want to see a horror/thriller, this should be high on your list. - MM

Although the story is global in scope, Knocking at the Shed excels at close quarters thanks to a close-knit, well-cast ensemble led by Dave Bautista. It doesn't quite reach the level of "Quiet Place" or "10 Cloverfield Lane," which are both very good films. Overanalyzing it or comparing it strictly to the horror novel it is based on, "The Lair at the End of the World," might be a bit disappointing. But if you let director M. Night Shyamalan's filmmaking take over, you'll find a fun, gripping psycho-thriller. - MM
