Huge Samsung Galaxy S24 Leak Reveals New AI Features in OneUI 6.1

Some of the rumored AI-powered features of the Samsung Galaxy S24 may have been revealed as soon as possible, thanks to a leak of the One UI 6.1 software that runs it.

The leak comes from a recent X (formerly Twitter) post by Benit Bruhner Pro, who reveals some obvious features along with screenshots to back up his claims. We knew the Galaxy S24 was said to be focused on AI features, but this is the first we've actually seen of how they might work.

One of the new features appears to be the addition of completely AI-generated wallpapers. The video attached to another post provides some idea of how this might work, although it looks similar to how AI-generated wallpapers are created in the vanilla version of Android 14.

The list of colors and materials available as wallpaper prompts appears to be fairly diverse, and it will be interesting to see if more specific options become available, either via download or third-party If you don't want to stick with AI wallpapers, there is also the option to create lock screen weather and It appears that a portrait-style frame effect will also be available to choose from.

The built-in photo editor in One UI 6.1 could also have some interesting additions: with the help of AI, the editor will be able to expand photo borders. For example, when straightening a photo taken at an angle, AI will be able to fill in the empty space and enlarge the photo to its original size.

The photo editor will also seemingly be able to move subjects within a photo by simply dragging and dropping them. This will make it easier to perform complex editing tasks on the fly. This is similar to the Magic Editor feature in Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

The Notes app also appears to take advantage of AI capabilities; the Galaxy S24 manages cluttered and unorganized notes by organizing them into bulleted lists, including text extracted from handwritten notes.

One UI 6.1 will provide the previously hinted at in-call translation, allowing users to speak in real time with a person speaking a different language. It may also include a Voice Focus feature. This would allow the phone to isolate ambient noise and speak more clearly, making conversations on the go easier to understand.

The final feature reported from One UI 6.1 is two charging features designed to protect and maintain the battery during overnight charging. Adaptive Protection limits the maximum charge level to 80% and pushes it to 100% when the user is about to wake up. The maximum protection feature, on the other hand, locks the charge level at 80% and prevents it from being exceeded.

It is good to see Samsung catching up, as this feature is also available on several other brands of smartphones. However, this feature may not benefit users with irregular schedules, as they need to charge their phones at regular intervals.

That said, there are a number of new AI features that could be included in the Galaxy S24, quite a few of which will make good use of Samsung's Gauss/Galaxy AI and perhaps significantly improved computing power within the phone. We will know much more when the Galaxy S24 is released early next year, probably in January.
