Streaming doesn't end after the new year, and there's no shortage of new shows and movies to watch this weekend on Netflix, Apple TV Plus, Prime Video, and other streaming services.

This weekend will see the return of fan favorites such as "Virgin River" Season 5 Part 2 and "Slow Horse" Season 3. Several new series will also premiere, including the gambling comedy "Bookie," the action comedy "Obliterated," and the Charles Dickens spin-off "Artful Dodger."

On the movie front, we'll be treated to two holiday-inspired family films, "Candy Cane Lane" and "The Family Switch," as well as the scandalous true story melodrama "May December." Here are some new shows and movies to watch this weekend.

"Virgin River" Season 5 will be a split season, as Netflix is starting to do with its big-budget shows. Part 2 consists of two special holiday episodes that follow the installment delivered in September. [It follows the startling information Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) learns while decorating for Christmas with her fiancé Jack (Martin Henderson): that her father may be a Virgin River resident. It turns out that Mel's mother was having an affair with a man in this small town that she had accidentally moved to after leaving Los Angeles. As Mel grapples with the implications of this revelation, she considers whether to try to conceive again or to consider surrogacy or adoption.

Gary Oldman's "Tinker Tailor The Lost Spy" series returns for a very welcome third season. This is one of the best shows on television, and where have you missed it so far? It combines thriller, action, and mystery with super sharp dialogue and great acting.

Oldman's hapless spymaster Jackson Lamb leads a team of disgraced MI5 agents on yet another case. A secret romantic meeting in Istanbul threatens to expose MI5 secrets buried in London. And they become embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens not only the future of Slough House, but of MI5 itself.

Sitcom extraordinaire Chuck Lorre returns with his first new show since 2019's Bob Hearts Abishola! This time he teams up with comedian Sebastian Maniscalco for a darker, edgier laugh. Veteran Los Angeles bookie Danny faces the loss of business if sports gambling is potentially legalized in California.

With the help of his best friend and former NFL player Ray (Omar J. Dorsey), his sidelined sister Lorraine (Vanessa Ferlito), and reluctantly reformed drug dealer Hector (Jorge Garcia), Danny attempts to clear debts with his increasingly volatile clients.

From the creators of "Cobra Kai" comes this action comedy set in Sin City. After a highly trained elite Special Forces unit foils a deadly threat to Las Vegas, they get high on booze, drugs, and sex. But then it is discovered that the bomb they disarmed was a fake. The real bomb is still there, and unless the team can find it, the entire city will disappear. An already difficult mission is made even more difficult by the fact that they still have alcohol and other substances in their system. Think of the movie "The Hangover," except instead of looking for their missing friends, they are in a race against time to prevent a nuclear explosion.

The most fascinating character in Charles Dickens' classic novel Oliver Twist appears in his own irreverent spin-off, set in the 1950s colony of Port Victory, Australia. The film follows Jack Dawkins (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), aka Artful Dodger, who once used his quick fingers as a pickpocket and now works as a surgeon.

But Jack's past comes back to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin (David Thewlis), who tries to lure Jack back into crime. Then there is Mrs. Belle Fox (Maia Mitchell), the Governor's daughter, who is determined to become the first female surgeon in the colonies. Jack will have to be more agile than ever to protect his mind, body, and soul.

When this Korean horror series debuted in 2020, it was very dark but suitable for pandemic viewing. Now in its second season, the real-world situation is very different, but the story is still shocking. While season one saw Hyun-soo (Song Kang) and other survivors holed up in the green home of their apartment building, season two takes them out into the outside world. There, they must battle more monsters. But equally terrifying are the other humans they encounter.

It is quite surprising that Eddie Murphy has not made a holiday comedy before. He plays Chris, a man on a mission to win the annual Christmas decorating contest. To increase his chances of winning, he makes a deal with the mischievous elf Pepper (Jillian Bell), unaware of the hilarious events that will follow.

Pepper then casts a magical spell that brings the 12 days of Christmas to life, wreaking havoc throughout the town. Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross), and their three children race against time to break Pepper's spell.

Think "Freaky Friday. Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms play Jess Walker and Bill Walker. Jess and Bill are parents trying their best to stay connected to their teenagers, CC (Emma Myers) and Wyatt (Brady Noon), who have become more independent and distant. Then a chance encounter with an astrologer awakens the family with a full-body switch on a critically important day in each of their lives. They will have to work together to get a promotion, a college interview, a record contract, and a successful soccer tryout.

Todd Haynes' latest melodrama is loosely based on that true story. Twenty years after their infamous romance, Gracie Atherton Yu (Julianne Moore) and her 23-year-old husband Joe (Charles Melton) are preparing their twins for high school graduation. Hollywood actress Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman) visits to better understand her controversial role in the film. As he gets to know her better, the family dynamics begin to fray under the outsider's gaze.
