The Holdovers streaming date: when will it be available to watch?

"The Holdovers" is already making headlines at the Oscars. Star Paul Giamatti and director Alexander Payne have teamed up again for the film about a boarding school teacher (Giamatti) who is forced to chaperone a student (Dominic Cessa) who has nowhere to go during Christmas break.

Giamatti and Payne have already teamed up for Sideways, which was nominated for an Academy Award and for which Payne won Best Adapted Screenplay. Critics and audiences alike have praised the film, which has received an astounding 96% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With the film already a huge success in theaters, it's no wonder people are curious to see when it will become available on the best streaming services. Let's take a look at where you can stream "The Holdovers" and when it will appear on streaming services.

There are quite a few streaming services that could be home to The Holdovers, but we can confirm that The Holdovers will be available on Peacock.

The film is distributed by Focus Features, a subsidiary of Universal Pictures. That means it is part of NBCUniversal, which almost always distributes new movies to Peacock when they become available for streaming. If you go to Peacock now, there are sections for Universal Pictures and Focus Features that showcase movies distributed by Focus Features.

Based on previous Focus Features releases on Peacock, such as Book Club, The Next Chapter, Asteroid City: The Next Chapter, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 and other previous Focus Features releases on Peacock, we surmised that "The Holdovers" would be available for streaming just before Christmas (December 25).

And we were close: The Holdovers will be released on Peacock on December 29 (h/t Variety). That means you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own home during the vacation season. Considering that it is one of the best films of the year, nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and ranked second in my personal top 10 films of the year, this is a pretty good present. Good news for those who can't wait for "Holdover" to be available for streaming, or for those who want to own the film themselves. Right now, you can buy or rent "The Holdovers" on several paid video-on-demand services, including Amazon.
