Google is rolling out a new feature called "Listen to this page" in the Android version of the Chrome browser. As you may have guessed, this feature will read the contents of the page aloud to you directly within the browser tab. It even has a podcast-style control that allows you to pause, change the reading speed, or skip back and forth in 10 seconds

This feature is similar to the "Listen to Pages" option in Safari on Iphone, and gives us

I was technically able to do this before, but by asking Google Assistant or using a third-party app (such as Pocket), I mean always stay away from the browser in this way, so you can stay in Chrome and read it with a nice automated voice. Do not like the voice? You can change it as well as the language. This feature is likely to follow in the future and will support English, French, German, Arabic, Hindi and Spanish at the moment.

It is also worth pointing out that this is different from the TalkBack accessibility feature. Android has had it at the OS level for many years as a means of helping blind and visually impaired users to navigate their devices.  

"Listen to page" is currently only deployed in Chrome for Android, but Google is reportedly testing the feature on desktops as well. According to a report by Android Police (2023), the desktop read-to-speech feature is within Chrome's read mode and sounds a bit 'robotic', but since then Google may have improved

Personally, I've kept too many articles tabs open in the hope that I have enough time to come back and read them. You can't wait to have this feature land because you have a habit to make your own.

As mentioned, this feature is currently rolled out, so if you've recently updated your Chrome app with an Android user, you might already be able to access it. Open a page with a lot of text and tap the 3 dots menu in the corner of the screen to see for sure. The "Listen to this page" option appears just below "Translate".
