Dell XPS13 plus just leaked with a big AI upgrade

Microsoft's big push for AI in 2024 has raised the timetable for many companies, and its effect is beginning to be seen in leaks and rumors of new computers from various manufacturers. Reportedly, Dell has 2 new laptops: Inspiron14 7441Plus, 7440 Refresh, and the new XPS13 9345.

According to a Windows report, even though the Inspiron14 7440Plus was not released 4 months ago, Dell already has the inspiron14 7441Plus in its pipeline.  Surprisingly, the Inspiron7441Plus looks a different design than the recently launched Intel Meteor Lake7440.

Both the new XPS and 7441 laptops will feature a new AI-focused Cpu. According to the report, the 7441 will be equipped with a 16-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite X. It's unclear if the XPS will have a Snapdragon chip, or one of Intel's new Ultra chips, 1. Based on previous reports, Microsoft is leaning on Qualcomm snapdragon chips for the company's new surface tablet. Price aside, Microsoft's partner OEMs like Dell will probably follow it.

Externally, the major design changes for the Inspiron14 7441 are port-based and keyboard-based. The 7440's AC adapter, full-size HDMI port, and USB Type-a port are gone. Instead, the 7441 replaced those ports with the 2nd USB Type-C port and microSD card slot on the left side of the laptop.

The Windows report did not leak the image on the right side of the laptop, but the publication listed 1 USB-A port. There is no mention of the 3.5mm headphone jack. If any, it's probably on the right.

Microsoft is pressing the new co-pilot button on the keyboard. The AI button is located next to the ALT key on the right.

The Inspiron14 7441Plus will be released with 16GB of ram. Reports suggest that to run Microsoft's "AI Explorer" on Windows 11, 16GB is the minimum requirement.  By comparison, other than the new co-pilot key, the XPS13 9345 looks the same as last year's Dell XPS13Plus. On May 1, Dell announced a line of XPS laptops built specifically for AI and equipped with co-pilot buttons. These things are supposed to be equipped with an Intel Ultra chipset.  It is also unclear whether the XPS will be equipped with a Snapdragon Elite X or Intel Ultra processor.

However, the XPS13Plus already comes with 16GB or 32GB of RAM, so it must meet the requirements of AI Explorer.

Prices and release dates have not yet been announced, but most new AI-focused Windows computers are expected to launch on 8 or 9 May this year.
