Samsung's Galaxy Smartwatch is about to get the health and well—being features of a new AI - here's what we know

We are only a handful of weeks from the possible date of Samsung's summer unpacking event where the brand is expected to launch a new foldable smartphone, an updated line of Galaxy smartwatches and Samsung's first ever Galaxy ring.

While the leaks covering all of the above products are stable, we have officially received specific information from Samsung, including details of the new AI—based wellness tools for the Galaxy Watch7 and square-shaped7Ultra.

More specifically, Samsung AI will appear in the Samsung Health app in the form of improved sleep analysis, daily "energy scores", training tips and new workout metrics.

Samsung did not specifically mention the Galaxy Watch7 in the announcement — the new feature is "available in the next Galaxy Watch line-up via One UI6Watch" and will be available for Galaxy Watch4 and above

But given rumors of an impending watch update, the wearables Samsung has in mind are pretty obvious. Here's everything you need to know about what Samsung announced today (5/29) regarding these new AI health tools that will appear on the Galaxy Watch.

Of all the AI-backed features confirmed by Samsung today, improved sleep tracking is what I'm most excited about. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 may already monitor things like sleep cycles, waking hours, blood oxygen levels, and even time spent snoring.

However, the Galaxy Watch7 may also analyze the following while snoozing using AI: movement during sleep, sleep latency (when you're completely asleep), and sleep latency (when you're asleep). The amount of time it takes to sleep), heart rate, and breathing rate during sleep. Many other smartwatches like the high-end Garmins and Fitbits are already tracking these data points, so it's nice to see Samsung join the party.

All this data is grouped under Sleep Insights in the Samsung Health app for ease of digestion. 1 thing Samsung didn't confirm is whether the new device will support sleep apnea detection, which the brand strongly suggested a few months ago.  Samsung's next-generation smartwatch will also include a daily Energy Score, as will Garmin's Body Battery and Fitbit's Daily Readiness Score.

This number is determined by using AI to analyze factors such as sleep duration, sleep consistency, bed/wake consistency, sleep heart rate, and heart rate fluctuations.

Smartwatches offering tips and suggestions to help you achieve your fitness goals is nothing new. But with the help of AI, these can be much more personalized and useful.

Samsung's upcoming health tips, for example, include both insights into current health as well as practical guidance to achieve self-set goals; motivational reminders are also part of the feature.

In terms of fitness tracking, Samsung has confirmed some useful new metrics and tools for better accuracy and deeper insight. For runners, you will now be able to keep tabs on Aerobic Thresholds (AT) and anaerobic thresholds (AnT) to better understand their limits for short, fast runs and slow, long-paced ones.

Cyclists now get a functional threshold Power (FTP) metric, which is a measure of the total amount of power they can maintain while riding for hours, tired runners and cyclists can also compare past attempts with current performance on known routes using Samsung's new racing feature. You can do it.

Finally, the new workout routine feature allows users to create customized regiments with selected exercises and seamlessly migrate without stopping or resetting tracking.

This information dump gives us a little taste of what happens at the Samsung Unpacked event, which is rumored to have happened on May 7. And with AI being the topic of the city, we will learn more difficult facts in the coming weeks, at least, about upcoming product releases, as it relates to potential AI capabilities.
